I recently heard a new version of the age-old “Hunter and the Crows” story that got me thinking.
Children were presented with a riddle: “100 crows were perching on a tree. The hunter came and fired a shot at the crows. One crow dropped dead. How many crows remain?”
“99 crows,” answered one child.
“None,” answered another. “The sound of the shot scared the others, and they flew away”.
“Only the dead one,” ventured yet another.
The teacher was about to appreciate that child when another child chirped in, “Two,” he said proudly.
Surprised, the teacher asked, “How so?”
The child replied earnestly, “The dead crow and his best friend”.
The teacher was left stunned and remained thoughtful.
